Music and local history celebrated at OctoberFest in Newbottle
07/10/2021
Week of events planned in 12th century parish church
The history of St James Church in Newbottle and the villages it is part of will be celebrated next week.
OctoberFest is a week of events that will bring music, talks and exhibitions to the small church, which serves the communities of Newbottle and Charlton.
The church dates back to the 12th century and a free talk on Sunday afternoon will explain the architecture of the building and the Manor House behind it.
Local village history will be the focus of an exhibition which will run through the week.
Live music also features through the week. On Saturday evening the chamber music group The Adderbury Ensemble will be performing. The popular local band Scarecrow will be playing songs ranging from traditional folk to jazz and blues on Tuesday evening and then next Thursday evening the internationally acclaimed soprano Miriam Allan will be appearing in concert.
The week of celebrations includes the church’s harvest festival service this Sunday.
Tickets for the concerts cost £10, all other events are free.
