New Local Plan set to be approved for submission
21/07/2025

The next stage would be conducted by an independent planning inspector
A new Local Plan for the Cherwell District should take a major step forward this evening.
A full meeting of Cherwell District Council will decide if the current version of the document can be submitted to the government for independent examination.
The plan aims to ensure our area develops to meet local needs in the coming years, whilst protecting the environment and securing sustainable development.
Our input on this latest version has been included through a formal consultation, which concluded in February.
If councillors tonight agree to submitting the plan the next stage will be conducted by an independent planning inspector and will include public hearings.
Councillor Jean Conway, Portfolio Holder for Planning and Development Management, said: “An up-to-date Local Plan will protect Cherwell’s heritage assets and green spaces and help us enhance ecosystems in the district. It will drive regeneration in our urban centres whilst creating homes, job opportunities and infrastructure in the most sustainable way possible.
“Where new development is needed, the Plan means we will deliver it to a high standard and in the most appropriate locations. It is a big positive that the Plan is so close to being ready for submission to government.”
