A teacher at the North Oxfordshire Academy has completed a full marathon – on the school’s athletics track!
Matt North, who is Head of PE, completed 105.5 laps of the track as part of a series of fund-raising initiatives for the British Heart Foundation.
The challenge started at 5:30am on Monday with Matt crossing the finish line just over 6 hours later at 11.35. Staff and students were there to cheer him on and holding up banners of support.
A number of members of the school community also joined Matt during parts of his run. School Principal Ellie Jacobs completed 12 laps with him at 6.15am and one student, Connor P, turned up and completed a half marathon!
The run was one of a number of fund-raising initiatives the school is undertaking in memory of a former member of staff, Marcus Treadgold, who passed away during the Easter holidays.
Yesterday staff and students took part in a Soccer Aid football match and today they will compete in a netball challenge. At tomorrow’s Sports Day sales of merchandise and tuck-shop items will add to the money collected.
Darren Jeffs from North Oxfordshire Academy said: “These events have shown a great sense of community in the school, in memory of a much loved and well liked teacher.”
