Northbound M40 closed all morning
10/08/2022
The carriageway was reopened at around 2pm
The northbound M40 between the Cherwell Valley Services and Banbury was closed for over 10 hours on Wednesday due to an accident during the night. A secondary collision around the same area added to the problems between Junctions 10 and 11.
The Highways agency kept the motorway closed as a result of a large fuel spillage and a substantial amount of debris on the carriageway.
The official diversion route took people off the M40 at junction 10 and to Brackley using the A43. From here they were directed through Farthinghoe on the A422 to re-join the M40 at junction 11.
Other routes around Banbury struggled as traffic from the M40 tried to avoid congestion on the official diversion route.
At 2pm the Highways Agency confirmed the motorway had reopened. They said: “The scene is now clear and the road has re-opened … following an earlier collision.
“Thank you for your patience, please have a safe onward journey.”
