Nurse to complete marathon length walk in aid of Hospice
18/10/2023
Katherine Walkington will cover a route of 42.9km this Sunday
A nurse who works as part of the palliative care team in our local hospitals is raising funds for the Katharine House Hospice by completing a marathon length sponsored walk.
On Sunday Katherine Walkington plans to cover a route between the John Radcliffe in Oxford and the Hospice in Adderbury – some 42.9km.
Katherine is inviting people to join her on sections of her journey, which will mainly follow the Oxford Canal.
The idea for the walk came to Katherine as she witnessed patients move from the hospitals where she worked to Katharine House Hospice where they could spend their final days in comfort. It’s something of a difficult journey for both the patient and their families.
Katherine’s father, Rev Roger Faulkner, has planned Sunday’s route and will be joining her on the day. A number of others have already indicated they will be taking part.
Rev Faulkner said: “Some may like to join us at the Great Western Arms in Aynho where we aim to arrive between 4.30 and 5.00pm. It would be really encouraging to see people there some of whom may want to spur us on by joining us for the last 4kms of the walk.”
Anyone wishing to support Katherine through sponsorship can do so here.
