Nursery and retail outlets to provide “community centre” on Longford Park
25/10/2024
An existing car park would be retained
Two planning applications have been submitted to develop land in the centre of the Longford Park estate.
HDD Banbury Ltd are proposing building a nursery, convenience store and other retail outlets on plots of land close to Longford Park Primary School.
Both submissions include retaining an existing car park next to the school, at the junction between Longford Park Road, Hobby Road and Songthrush Road. A grassy plot of land opposite would become home to the nursery and one retail unit. The remaining land, which has been used for site storage, would be used for another four retail units.
The nursery site had previously been earmarked for a GP surgery.
A Design and Access statement says the developers are aiming to “provide a community centre for the newly developed residential area.”
It concludes: “It is intended that this development enhances the new development and the wider community in Longford Park.”
Last December approval was giving for the development of a 128-bedroom care home on adjacent land, opposite Longford Park Primary School.

I feel this is largely positive, and about time we had some more facilities in the new communities – but a great shame that the GP surgery has been dropped from the plans! We need more GP’s, dentists and pharmacies – it was a great idea to allow the pharmacies to take on some of the responsibility previously held by GP’s but sadly this has just moved the problem; recent closures (including dispensary in Sainsbury’s closing) has made the situation worse.

44 car parking spaces, why only two spaces allocated for disabled parking?

What are the plans for nursery to be available?
