Official opening of new building at William Morris Primary School

The school now has eight modern classrooms in a more usable building along with safer external play areas
The official opening of a new school building at William Morris Primary School on Bretch Hill took place yesterday afternoon. The major building project has been funded by Oxfordshire County Council to meet the growing demand for school places in the area.
The school is part of the GLF Schools trust, having taken academy status in 2015. At the time it had been judged by Ofsted to be inadequate.
Following that a new outdoor play area for nursery and reception classes was created and a four-phase project devised to give the school eight modern classrooms in a more usable building, along with safer external play areas. Yesterday’s opening marked the culmination of that project.
Head of School Alastair Johns said: “Following the end of these works, we now have eight modern classrooms enabling high quality teaching and learning, and a more usable building that supports the wellbeing of staff and children.”
Councillor Liz Brighouse, Oxfordshire County Council’s Cabinet Member for Children, Education and Youth Services, added: “Our commitment is to give every child the very best start in life by investing in top of the class learning and teaching environments.
“It is always rewarding to see new buildings opened, and I’m sure both pupils and staff will thrive in these new and modern classrooms.”
Ofsted rated the school as Outstanding in 2018.
