Banbury Town Council has made the games equipment available in People’s Park
Anyone visiting People’s Park not only gets to enjoy the beautiful natural surroundings, but they can now enjoy a game of chess as well!
Banbury Town Council has provided chess boards and pieces for use at the tables outside the park’s café, with visitors able to relax and enjoy a game with friends, family, or even strangers.
There is no charge for anyone wanting to play and the equipment is readily available from the café.
Councillor Kieron Mallon, leader of the council, said: “The introduction of chess facilities at People’s Park adds tremendously to the diverse offerings Banbury provides for both residents and visitors.
“Not only does chess require skill, but it also serves as a valuable tool for learning and personal growth. Through chess, players cultivate critical thinking, problem-solving, decision-making, patience, and resilience – attributes that hold significance in all facets of life.
“This project stands as a testament to our commitment to ensuring long-term benefits for our town.
“As a debt-free council, we prioritize prudent spending to deliver high value to our town. With below inflation council tax rates, we strive to provide exceptional value for money, ensuring that our investments continue to enrich the lives of Banbury’s residents for years to come.”
