Plans could see Wroxton’s White Horse reopen

A residential scheme would help to make the pub viable
Villagers in Wroxton could see the return of one of their local pubs if permission is given for changes to the White Horse on the Stratford Road.
Food and drinks were last served in the establishment early in 2018. After closing the property was sold. Since then the new owner has been in discussions with planning officers at Cherwell District Council.
Now formal plans have been submitted which envisage the retention of most of the existing pub with the addition of a shop and café. A section of the old dining room would be lost to create a holiday let and the adjoining workshop would be converted into 2 new cottages.
In correspondence with the council the applicant wrote: “The driver behind the envisaged scheme … is to find a way to reopen the public house and cross-subsidise this with a residential scheme comprising both new build properties and conversion of a proportion of the existing structure.”
The White Hart is a Grade II listed building within the Wroxton conservation area. It was built around 1730 and became a public house in 1756.
Wroxton’s other pub, The North Arms, closed in 2013 and is currently being converted into a house.
