Plea for volunteers to help save Bloxham Fun Day

The existing Committee need fresh blood to take the event forward

A popular summer event in Bloxham won’t happen this year unless more volunteers come forward to help with the organization.   Bloxham Fun Day started in 2017 and followed in the footsteps of Bloxfest.

After five years running the Fun Day – and Bloxfest before that – the organizing committee are looking for fresh blood to work on this year’s event.

Angela Morris has been the committee Chairperson.  She said: “It’s like many things, we’ve got a committee, but myself and some of the others have been doing this for more than 10 years.   Basically, we’re a bit burned out!   We need some volunteers who are willing to come along and help.

“We’ve already put out a few pleas on Facebook and in the Bloxham Broadsheet, but it hasn’t brought anybody forward.”

Bloxham Fun Day normally takes place on the second Saturday in June in Jubilee Park.  The event was first organized as a way to bring the community together, which was accessible to everybody.

It costs around £7,000 to run the Fun Day, covering elements such as staging, lighting and insurance.   Some of this is generated through a village lottery.   Other income comes from a bar at the event and commercial vendors pay for their pitch, but village organisations are not charged for their stalls.

Angela describes the Fun Day as a very family friendly festival with attendance averaging around 1,000 people.  Anyone who can volunteer some time to help ensure this year’s event can take place is asked to call her on 07788 716506 by March 20.
