Popular Tour-de-Trigs hike is back with an option for families to take part

The tough winter walk was last held in 2019 before the pandemic

The area’s most challenging winter hike will return this year, but on a new date and from a different venue.   The popular Tour-de-Trigs competition is also offering a new category to enable families to take part together.

The walking event has been running since 1964, but has been cancelled for the last two years due to the pandemic.

The Tour-de-Trigs has become a widely recognised walking challenge with people travelling from across the country to join local walkers.   Teams of three aim to complete a route covering either 15 miles, 30 miles or the full length 50-mile course.   Details of the exact route are only revealed to teams just before the start of the event.

From this year the hike will be held during the last weekend in November (November 26 and 27) rather the traditional first weekend in December.   The event headquarters is also moving to a new home at Sibford School.

A new category will enable families to take part in the 15-mile hike, with up to 5 members allowed in the team, including 2 adults over the age of 18.

Technology will be used to keep younger walkers and family teams safe with trackers used, as well as support teams out on the route.

The Tour-de-Trigs has its origins in an event started by a group of Rover Scouts attached to the 1st Bodicote Scout Group.

Each year a large team of people volunteer to oversee the event and make it happen.   These including those manning checkpoints, rescue and support vehicles, and the organisational team at headquarters.
