Torrential downpours were too much for the drainage system to cope with

The Tesco Extra store on the Banbury Cross Retail Park was forced to close for around 40 minutes yesterday afternoon after heavy rain brought chaos to the car park.
The Range Store on Cherwell Street remains closed today due to flooding. A notice at the store says it will be closed until further notice.
Ryman Stationery on Banbury’s High Street has also been closed after water came in through the building’s flat roof. Staff have been clearing up today and plan to reopen on Thursday.
At Banbury Bus Station water appeared to be coming up from the drains, which were struggling to cope with the volume of rainwater. The level rose substantially in just 20 minutes.
Motorists on Dukes Meadow Drive carefully navigated flooding on the road between the Lapsley Drive and Southam Road roundabouts. Drivers also had to deal with deep water near to the Police Station on the Warwick Road, at the bottom of Hightown Road, near the Bankside turn and near the petrol station on the A361 in Bloxham.
