The 13.2MW site would include a package of landscape and biodiversity benefits

Initial enquiries have been made into the siting of a nearly 36 hectare solar farm on farm fields to the west of Duns Tew.

Brighton based company ILOS New Energy UK has submitted a screening opinion application to Cherwell District Council, giving planners the chance to offer their early views on the proposal.

The site at Spring Farm could generate an export capacity of circa 13.2MW.   The company says the development would include a package of landscape and biodiversity benefits which could include barn owl boxes, beehives, bird breeding boxes and areas suitable for reptile species, amphibians, and insect life.

Land between and beneath the panels might be used seasonal grazing.

Two Sites of Special Scientific Interest – Middle Barton Fen and Horsehay Quarries – are around 1km from the proposed development.

The applicant expects the site would have a life span of up to 40 years.   After this it would be decommissioned and removed.

Planners aim to respond to the request by December 26.

There is already an existing solar farm just under 2km north of Duns Tew.
