Proposed new structure for Banbury United as club grows
22/03/2022
Turnover is nearly four times higher than the levels when the club became fan owned six years ago
The management board which oversees the operation of Banbury United Football Club is proposing a number of changes to the way the club operates. The changes are being recommended as the existing board members believe the club has outgrown its current structure.
Banbury United’s first team are currently flying twenty points clear of second placed Coalville Town at the top of the Southern League Premiere Division Central. With six games left to play just two more wins will secure the Puritans the title of league champions and promotion from their current league.
The club’s ownership transferred to Community Benefit Society six years ago. During that period turnover has increased from around £150,000 annually to an estimated £560,000 for the current financial year.
Should club members agree to the changes the board of directors would be reduced from 9 to 6 people, with these directors tasked with taking a strategic overview of Banbury United. The day-to-day operation of the club would be overseen by a new management committee, which would be appointed by the Board.
Club members are being invited to have their say on reducing the number of board members in a survey which has been launched. Its hoped the new structure can be agreed and implemented at the club’s Annual General Meeting on May 5.
