Puritan’s board fears fines after items thrown on pitch
21/08/2023
The actions of a few could be taking money away from the budget to be spent on players
Banbury United’s directors have been forced to speak out again after a number of items – including flares – were thrown on the pitch during Saturday’s home fixture against Chester.
802 people watched the all-ticket game, which saw Mark Jones’ side defeat Chester by a goal to nil – the Puritan’s second win of the new season on the trot.
Now, the club fears the actions of a few could result in the Football Association issuing them with fines totalling several hundreds of pounds – money which otherwise could have been spent on players or ground improvements.
In an open letter to all supporters the board said: “Our message to anyone looking to create or participate in a disorder is that you are not welcome at the Banbury United Plant Hire Community Stadium.
“We take the breaching of our ground regulations very seriously as well as the threat to the prosperity and reputation of our community-owned Club. Fans should take confidence that this misbehaviour is being dealt with, in conjunction with our security team and authorities, which will result in disciplinary action being taken.”
The board acknowledges that the problems are down to a “handful of culprits” and says that they are planning to introduce CCTV cameras to help them take action against those involved.
