State-of-the-art LED floodlights will now illuminate Banbury United games

Banbury United will be playing under state-of-the-art new floodlights after achieving a £25,000 fund raising target in just two months.   New LED floodlights have replaced the old lighting system, parts of which date back to 1966.

The club’s fund raising initiatives began in July and included a crowd-funder page and individual contributions, together with money raised at pre-season friendlies.   A grant was also received from Banbury Charities.

The club’s original floodlights were officially switched on by Sir Stanley Matthews on October 4th, 1966.   2,107 fans turned up to see the floodlight’s opening game that evening against Port Vale.

The new LED floodlights have already been used for training and by the Women’s and Under 18s teams.

Its planned that Andy Whing’s first team will play under the lights for the first time when they host Biggleswade Town on Tuesday September 28.    To mark the occasion the club are offering a “floodlit footy for a fiver” deal for the game, with entry at just £5 for adults and concessions.
