Repairs begin on Banbury’s most pot-holed road
30/07/2024
Local Councillors are pleased their lobbying finally paid off
Work to repair what is arguably Banbury’s most pothole ridden road is underway.
Full structural maintenance on the Warwick Road from the Southam Road junction as far as Orchard Way is expected to take around three weeks to complete.
The road will be closed for some of that period, with traffic lights in use to control the flow at other times.
It took two years of lobbying by County Councillor Mark Cherry to get the road included in a schedule of work to be completed.
Speaking back in May Councillor Cherry said: “The main obstacle to getting it done has been a lack of money from Conservative central government. Warwick Road has been falling apart for many years, from Parklands roundabout, right up to past Banbury police station and the work is much-needed to improve safety for motorists and cyclist like.
“Results like this show that Labour councillors of all levels of local government in Banbury listen to constituents and eventually do get the results that will lead to public safety.”
District Councillor Cllr Dr Chukwudi Okeke added: “It has been one of the main concerns raised by the residents we talk to on the doorstep. Thanks to our hard-working County Councillor, Mark Cherry, who has always listened to the Cross & Neithrop District Councillors regarding the poor condition of Warwick Road, and who has been persistently pushing for it to be resurfaced.”
The work is part of an overall project on roads across Oxfordshire at a cost of around £43m.

As a cyclist this is dangerous road. I dislike riding g Woodgreen Avenue as an escape route as it too is problematical for cycling because of the narrow lane caused by parked cars.

I disagree, the Southam Rd is the worst. The whole thing needs ‘resurfacing’ not pothole filling! Do it right, every other country can!
