The Frank Wise School students spent 10 days at the Calvert Trust in Exmoor

Two 18-year-old students from the Frank Wise School have attended a course to help them achieve their potential, with help from the Rotary Club of Banbury.

Fizan Hussain and Archie Fox, who attend the Griffiths Centre, spent 10 days at the Calvert Trust in Exmoor.  Here they experienced exciting, challenging and enjoyable outdoor activities such as archery, canoeing, zip wires, abseiling and cycling.

Both Fizan and Archie also assisted other less capable participants in organised and social group activities.

Transport to and from Exmoor was arranged by a Rotarian and Fizan and Archie were accompanied by a mentor from Frank Wise.

Although the course was fully accommodated and catered, Fizan and Archie had to be individually independent outside the supervised daytime activities.  This was their first experience of living in a single room away from their family or school.

Both were given mobile phones to record their experiences and to contact their parents and school staff if needed.

At the end of the course last week both students spoke about their experiences with Rotarians at a coffee morning presentation.

The Rotary Youth Leadership Award helps young adults develop personal skills that are useful to the local community.  As part of this, each year since 2012 the Rotary Club of Banbury has sponsored two students from the Griffiths Centre at Frank Wise School to attend the course.
