Cherwell’s Commercial Waste Team have won a national award

A council team that offers ethical waste services to over 700 north Oxfordshire businesses is celebrating a prestigious national award.

Cherwell District Council’s commercial waste team was named Team of the Year at the Local Authority Recycling Advisory Committee Celebration Awards, held on October 8.

The team helped a growing number of customers recycle 410 tonnes of mixed dry waste and glass in 2024/25.

An increasing number of businesses are using the council’s commercial waste service for regular, ongoing collections, but the team is also generating growth by offering tailored, one-off services for local events.

Councillor Ian Middleton, Portfolio Holder for Neighbourhood Services, praised the work the team were doing, especially in the area of reducing the impact local businesses had on the planet.   He said: “By giving impartial and ethical advice on emissions reduction, recycling training, and waste audits, we’re tapping into our customers’ desire to reduce their environmental impact, and it’s great to see that innovative work acknowledged with a LARAC award.

“I’d like to add my personal thanks to the team for their continued hard work and dedication, and congratulations on their well-deserved award.”
