Rugby club looking for memorabilia for centenary year
19/06/2024
Memorabilia Days will run next week
Banbury Rugby Club is about to enter it’s centenary season. To mark the milestone the club wants to create a centenary book looking back at the last 100 years.
They’ve put out a call for people to supply them with memorabilia for the book, including old photographs, programmes, press cuttings, clothing and other items relating to the club.
Some of the artefacts which have already been collected are going to be put on display next Wednesday and Thursday at Bodicote Park. Its hoped past members and the general public will head to the Memorabilia Days to see these and to add anything they may have. Where the owner doesn’t want to leave the original item club members will photograph or scan it.
The Memorabilia Days will run from midday on Wednesday (June 26) until 10pm on Thursday (June 27).
Anyone who is unable to attend, but who has items of interest, can contact the club by emailing centenary@banburyrufc.co.uk.
Banbury Museum has offered the Rugby Club the opportunity to display a selection of the artefacts during the Summer.
Other events lined up during the centenary year will include a match against Old Bloxhamists on August 25, who were the club’s very first opponents in 1925. Both teams will field some former players and former county and International players.
