Safety concerns due to lack of working streetlights on Longford Park

The estate remains the responsibility of the developers who build the houses
Residents on Longford Park are nervous about venturing out after dark due to a lack of working streetlights on the estate.
One Dunnock Road resident has claimed its ten years since the last working streetlight failed in the road.
Public areas on Longford Park are not controlled by the council, but rather the developers who built the estate. The Longford Park Consortium comprises Taylor Wimpey, Barratt Homes and the Vistry Group.
Because none of the roads have been adopted by Cherwell District Council residents are unable to log faults using the FixMyStreet portal.
Toni Milns is one of those who is concerned. Toni said: “You read about people being attacked and it makes me feel quite vulnerable, but its also the fact that nobody really cares about what happens up here.
“We have two children’s playgrounds right at the front of the estate and they are quite often vandalised. It’s so dark out there no one can see what’s going on. Kids hang around there, there’s lots of smoking.
“I don’t want it to drag the estate down any more – its already scruffy and unloved.”
A spokesperson from the Longford Park Consortium told Banbury FM: “We understand residents’ concerns about street lighting and safety on the estate, and apologise for any inconvenience and anxiety caused.
“We have instructed a third-party company to conduct a site-wide audit, which will be completed by the end of this week. We are committed to moving forward with the necessary repairs as quickly as possible once we receive their recommendations.
“Whilst adoption of the estate is taking longer than anticipated, we remain committed to completing the process and will provide residents with a clearer timeline once the legal matters are resolved.”
