Series of one-day strikes affects journeys from Banbury station

05/04/2024

Cross Country services are affected on Friday and Chiltern services on Saturday

Train users can expect difficult journeys over the next few days due to industrial action by members of the ASLEF union, who are taking part in a number of one-day strikes.

Cross Country services are affected today (Friday) with none running through Banbury.   The operator’s trains usually serve routes north to Manchester and south to Bournemouth.

Tomorrow action will be taken by staff working on Chiltern Railways services, leading to no trains from Banbury to London.

For both days those hoping to use the rail network will find operators where staff are working likely to be very busy, as commuters try to find alternative ways to reach their destination.

Customers are advised to only travel if essential and to leave more time for their journey.

Richard Morris, CrossCountry’s Service Delivery Director, said: “We’re sorry to customers impacted by this latest round of industrial action. While we’re working hard to run as many services as possible over these days, there is likely to be significant disruption for people planning to travel – especially on Saturday 6 April.

“I’d ask those planning to travel to check their journey in advance, as well as on the day. Customers can visit the CrossCountry website or National Rail Enquiries for the latest travel information.”

Members of the ASLEF union working for Great Western Railway, which runs through Oxford, will also be on strike on Saturday.
