24/09/2022
Residents were advised to go inside their home and stay there with windows and doors closed
Firefighters have spent Saturday morning at the scene of what they described as “a significant fire” on a Bloxham industrial estate. Crews from ten stations and units have been at the scene since shortly after 5.30am.
Residents in the village were advised to go inside their home and stay there with their windows and doors closed due to a plume of smoke from the blaze.
Calls were initially made to the emergency services reporting smoke and sounds of explosions near to Bloxham sewage works, although its understood the sewage works was not involved.
Initially, firefighters worked in “significant conditions” to prevent the fire from spreading to adjoining units, with crews from Banbury, Deddington, Hook Norton, Charlbury and Kidlington at the scene. They were assisted by water carriers from Wheatley and Kenilworth, a command unit from Slade Park, a hydraulic platform from Rewley Road and a Decontamination and Environmental Protection unit from Didcot.
The challenge of the large fire included dealing with a number of cylinders and other hazards involved in the blaze.
Crews from Bampton, Burford and Banbury will be remaining at the scene well into the afternoon dealing with the incident.
The cause is currently unknown and under investigation.
