Skate Park granted planning permission
06/04/2023
The facility will include quarter-pipes, ramps, ledges and rails
Brackley’s new skate park has taken a step closer. Planning permission for the project was granted yesterday by West Northamptonshire Council.
The leisure facility will be built next to Brackley Leisure Centre, alongside Candleford Close. The design is described as consisting of “several quarter-pipes, ramps, ledges and rails and would broadly be laid out in an ‘H’ shape with two linear sections with a connecting central area”.
In making his assessment of the application the Council’s Planning Officer said: “The application site is sustainably located within the settlement confines of Brackley … therefore suitable for a community facility as is proposed here. Officers also note that the development would be co-located with the Brackley Leisure Centre and various playing fields as well as near to the local centre at Lake Rise which will promote the use of linked journeys while also meaning the site is readily accessible.”
The idea of a skatepark has been in the pipeline for a long time but had been delayed due to the pandemic and developer funding not becoming available when expected. With planning permission now granted Brackley Town Council and their contractor Maverick Skateparks have now moved the project much closer to the start of the facility being built.
