Southbound A43 likely to be shut for rest of day
19/10/2021
A burst water main has resulted in gridlocked traffic on the bypass
The southbound A43 between Brackley and the A421 to Finmere has been closed since Monday evening due to a water leak.
Through this morning the bypass has been gridlocked on the eastern and southern sides of Brackley. It is expected that the carriageway will remain closed for the rest of today.
The highways agency first reported the issue late on Monday morning when they responded to reports of flooding on the carriageway. At the time one lane was closed. Yesterday evening the carriageway was closed completely so Anglian Water could begin repair work.
A signed diversion route is in operation, taking southbound traffic through Buckingham and Finmere, to rejoin the A43 using the A421.
An Anglian Water spokesperson said, “Our teams have been working overnight to repair a burst water main on the A43 in Brackley. The repair has been completed and the team are now working to resurface the road before we can open the carriageway.
“We are hoping to have the road reopened by tomorrow morning, and would like to thank everyone for their patience while we complete this emergency work.”
