Stagecoach called out for inaccurate real-time bus information

The app and digital displays show a bus is on the way but it never arrives

A local Councillor has called out Stagecoach for failing to deliver correct real time information for local bus users.

Andrew Crichton says that a number of residents have contacted him to share their frustration that the Stagecoach App and real time information boards don’t update when a bus service has been cancelled.   This leaves bus users thinking that a bus is on the way right up until the time it is due, when it simply doesn’t show up.

Councillor Crichton said: “Real Time Information online and at bus stops could be a game changer for bus users, but only if the information provided is accurate.   I’ve known residents who have waited for up to an hour for buses that usually run every 15 minutes, with them only being notified of the bus’ cancellation after its arrival time.

“In this weather and at this time of year, it really is causing misery for commuters. I hope that Stagecoach takes swift action to address this. If we want people to use public transport, it needs to be predictable and run as people expect it to.”

The issue was raised at the most recent Banbury Traffic Advisory Committee meeting.

Banbury FM has contacted Stagecoach asking them to comment on the situation.
