Adderbury, Bloxham and Upper Heyford exchanges set to be upgraded

Gigabit capable, full fibre broadband could be available to many more local homes and businesses very soon.   Upgrade work will enable much faster internet connections.

Work began on upgrading the exchange in Banbury last year.   Today it has been confirmed upgrade work has been agreed for the Adderbury, Bloxham and Upper Heyford exchanges, alongside a number of others elsewhere in Oxfordshire.

Over 98 per cent of homes and businesses in the county currently have access to superfast broadband thanks to the work of Oxfordshire County Council’s digital infrastructure team.

The latest collaboration with suppliers will see a further eighteen exchange areas modernised by Openreach with gigabit capable fibre infrastructure.

Openreach have announced the rollout of fibre optic cables running straight to people’s homes or premises, enabling superfast connections.  Other operators continue with significant full fibre infrastructure work across the county.

Councillor Glynis Phillips, Oxfordshire County Council’s Cabinet Member for Corporate Services, said: “This announcement confirms over 75,000 homes and businesses across 18 locations will benefit from access to future-proof, full fibre broadband. Combined with significant council and government investment in fibre broadband infrastructure in hardest to reach areas, this latest work builds on our commitment to help deliver accessibility and sustainable growth across Oxfordshire.”

The upgrade work is set to be complete by 2026.
