Suspected leaking pipe is actually a natural spring

Water testing and other explorative work revealed the water wasn’t coming from a burst pipe
A suspected leaking pipe on a Banbury road has turned out to be a natural spring.
Local people had contacted Councillor Mark Cherry – the Oxfordshire County Councillor for Banbury Ruscote – after water appeared across Orchard Way.
Both Oxfordshire County Council’s highways team and Thames Water were involved in establishing the cause of the problem. Water testing and other explorative work revealed the water wasn’t coming from a burst pipe, but from a natural spring.
Contractors have now diverted the spring to a nearby stormwater drain.
Councillor Cherry said: “This has been an issue consistently raised by residents, which I’ve been working hard to resolve.
“Following extensive liaison and water testing with Oxfordshire County Council highways officers and Thames Water, we established that the leaking water was not coming from a burst watermain or pipe, but from a spring. I’m pleased to report this has been successfully diverted underground and into the stormwater system.
“I would like to thank Oxfordshire County Council’s contractors for moving forward with the work that will make the Orchard Way road safer, particularly during the coming colder months.”
