Thank you tea for fund raising superstars

Pat and Dot have raised nearly £190,000 since their fund-raising partnership was formed

A special “thank you” afternoon tea has been held for two volunteer fundraisers who have helped raise nearly £190,000 for Katharine House over the past 30 years.

Dot Tagg and Pat Russell met whilst volunteering at the Adderbury based hospice in 1991.   They became firm friends and since then have hosted raffles, held sales and mingled with Fairport Festival goers to raise money.

Over the years at the Cropredy Festival alone they have amassed a staggering £90,000.

As a thank you for their support, the hospice treated Pat and Dot to an afternoon tea, complete with cakes and scones freshly baked by the hospice catering team.

Pat has been volunteering at the hospice since it opened, having been told by a friend that they were looking for volunteers.    Dot started volunteering in 1991 and later went on to work for the hospice.

Community and Events Officer Rachel Burns said: “These two superstars have done so much for the hospice we really wanted to do a little something to thank them and let them know how much we appreciate everything they have done for us.

“We can’t stress enough how important our volunteers are to us, especially when they’re raising so much money for us! We simply wouldn’t be here without the support of each and every one.”

A team from Katharine House will be back at the Cropredy Festival with the usual stall and raffle this year, building on Pat and Dot’s success.

Anyone inspired by the Pat and Dot’s story is invited to join the team of volunteers at Katharine House’s which attends local events and helps raise funds for the hospice.
