Sixteen local primary schools will be taking part

Primary school children from around the area will be heading to St Mary’s Church in Banbury over the next three nights for the return of the popular and long-running Children Singing for Children concerts.

Historically the event, which is organised by Banbury Rotary Club, took place in November, but after a pandemic enforced absence the concerts return as the evenings are getting lighter and with spring just around the corner.

Sixteen schools are taking part this year, with five or six coming together each night.   This provides a varied and different programme for each concert.

Each school has rehearsed the songs they have chosen to perform with some represented by the school choir, whilst others will showcase one year group and others have offered children the chance to be part of the evening.

Members of Banbury Rotary Club have been building the stage for the concert, which needs to be large enough to take the children from all of the participating schools for the finale number.   Each evening this is a group performance of “World In Union”, which became widely known after being performed by Kiri Te Kanawa at the 1991 Rugby World cup final.

Alan Wolstencroft is the host for the magical evening, which starts at 7pm.   Tickets, costing just £5, are available from the participating schools and Henry’s Menswear on Banbury High Street.   Any remaining tickets will be available on the door.

Proceeds will be split between Children Heard and Seen, Helen and Douglas House, The Sunshine Centre and other Rotary children’s charities.
