Town Hall goes green for Recycle Week
17/10/2023
The week celebrates and promotes the benefits of recycling
Anyone heading into Banbury last night will have seen the Town Hall illuminated in green. The building is being lit up for seven days to show support for the 20th annual recycle week, which started yesterday (October 16).
Local charity WRAP (Waste and Resources Action Programme), which is based in George Street, is organising the countrywide event.
Recycle Week is designed to celebrate and promote the benefits of recycling and is intended to create opportunities that help families protect the planet.
This year’s theme is ‘The Big Recycling Hunt.’ It highlights what WRAP describes as missed capture – recyclable items that are commonly overlooked in the home including aerosols, food tins, plastic bottles, pots, tubs, and trays.
The campaign will have two elements. It will encourage schoolchildren to take part in meaningful fun activities – and urge local authorities to share the message.
Leader of Banbury Town Council Kieron Mallon said: “We are happy to show our support for this campaign by lighting up the town hall. I hope the green glow will remind people that recycling is an important issue.”
“Local councils already play a part in recycling. They provide special bins and bin collections for items that can be recycled and I would ask residents to fully use those facilities.”
