Town Mayor’s Sunday was a scorcher
11/07/2022
Arena displays and side shows kept families entertained as People’s Park basked in the sunshine
People’s Park welcomed fun-loving families who joined mayor Jayne Strangwood for a fabulous day out in Sunday’s glorious sunshine.
The always-popular annual event included a dog show, games, funfair rides, food and drink kiosks, charity stalls, and amazing shows of strength by Mighty Adrian Smith, three times winner of UK’s Strongest Man Competition.
Admission to the event was free and hundreds of people turned out to be part of the fun.
They picnicked in the sunshine and gathered around the arena to see the entertainment.
They watched as Mighty Smith pulled a car across the grass, held a chair in his teeth with a woman sat in it, and performed other amazing feats of strength.
Local charity Dogs for Good fascinated onlookers with an arena display by assistance dogs, and singer Cerys Curtis delighted the audience.
Theatre group Stagecoach and the Rosewood School of Dance completed the area entertainment –with the football club’s Puritans Radio compering the show and provided between-acts music.
A 999 display of ambulances and police cars thrilled youngsters who sat in driving seats and pressed blues and twos buttons.
Charity stalls did good business while ice cream sellers had queues all day.
Cllr Strangwood said: “Town Mayor’s Sunday is traditionally a family favourite and this year we had lots to attract people of all ages and interests.
“It was a day when whole families came together and enjoyed themselves.”
