Traders offered free and discounted stalls at Banbury Market
30/01/2025

The offer runs until the end of March
In a bid to bolster the local economy, support small businesses, and drive more footfall into the town centre, Cherwell District Council is offering free and discounted market stalls at Banbury Market from this weekend, until March 29.
The pitch fee waiver is available to both existing and new traders.
The initiative is funded by the UK Shared Prosperity Fund and the council is encouraging new traders to seize the opportunity to join the market community and showcase their products to new customers.
Councillor Lesley McLean, Deputy Leader of Cherwell District Council and Portfolio Holder for Finance, Property and Regeneration, said: “Our markets are a cornerstone of the district’s identity and heritage. These special offers provide essential support for our local small businesses during the quieter winter months and encourage new businesses to become part of the thriving market community. This is part of our wider commitment to revitalise our urban centres across Cherwell, ensuring they remain attractive, vibrant spaces for both residents and visitors.”
Councillor Ian Middleton, Portfolio Holder for Neighbourhood Services, said: “We are proud to invest in the future of market trading. Supporting traders who are vital to the heart of our communities is a priority. As a former market trader myself, I know how a market stall can be a great start for a small business, sometimes leading to bigger things in the future. We want our urban centres to continue flourishing, and we encourage everyone to visit our markets to support the wide diversity of small retail businesses in our towns and villages.”
More information is available at the Banbury Charter Market website or by emailing streetscene.events@cherwell-dc.gov.uk.
Banbury was granted the right to hold a weekly market as part of a charter granted to the town in 1554 by Queen Mary Tudor.
