“For decades now Oxfordshire County Council has not invested in our infrastructure in northern Banbury”

A petition urging Oxfordshire County Council to take action to address traffic congestion and the daily delays experienced by drivers on the northern side of Banbury is gaining traction.

One Banbury County Councillor is urging people to sign the petition to show the county council the strength of feeling in Banbury, citing decades of under investment.

It was started by Jade Moorman following a discussion with her work colleagues as to why nothing was being done to address the problem.

Following Banbury FM’s initial story yesterday (Monday) people have been reacting with their own experiences.   One describing a journey today from the top of Hardwick to Gateway taking 1 hour and 8 minutes.

Councillor Andrew Crichton represents the Banbury Hardwick division.   He said: “This is something that comes up on the doorstep every time I am out and about speaking to residents. For decades now Oxfordshire County Council has not invested in our infrastructure in northern Banbury, and we are unfortunately seeing the consequences of this now.

“There is no silver bullet to solve this, but there needs to be a serious rethink of the Tesco Roundabout area, resurfacing of Southam Road and better public transport provision so local people actually have an alternative to driving.   People don’t have the confidence to use buses because they don’t know if they are going to turn up.

“I would urge residents to sign Jade’s petition and to please contact your local County Councillor if you have any suggestions for how this area could be improved.”

The petition can be found here.
