Tree-mendous fund-raising scheme recycled for fifth year

Hundreds of trees have been recycled in previous years generating cash for Katharine House

If you have a real Christmas tree hopefully it hasn’t started to drop its pine needles yet, but when it does you can recycle it and raise money for Katharine House.

The hospice’s annual Christmas tree recycling scheme is returning for a fifth year as 2026 gets underway, with registration open now for people living in a number of OX7, OX15, OX16, OX17 and NN13 postcode areas.

The trees will be collected on January 8 and 9 and taken to Acreman’s Arboriculture in Banbury, where they are chipped and processed into mulch, supporting local sustainability efforts.

Over the past four years, the initiative has recycled hundreds of trees and raised thousands of pounds in donations, helping the hospice continue to provide specialist palliative care and support for adults with life-limiting illnesses, and their families.

Carley Lambourne, Events and Challenges Officer at Katharine House Hospice said, “Our Tree-cycle scheme is a great way for the community to support the vital work of the hospice, as well as having a positive impact on local environmental efforts.

“We know that once the festive celebrations are over, getting rid of the Christmas tree can be a hassle. We want to reduce some of the stress whilst also raising much-needed funds for the hospice, helping make a lasting impact on our community this festive season and beyond.”

Those wishing to take part can register here by midnight on 4 January 4, 2026.    Collections will take place in OX7 (3,4,5,6), OX15 (0,4,5,6), OX16 (0,1,2,3,4,5,9), OX17 (1,2,3) and NN13 (5,6,7).   Decorations and lights must have been removed prior to collection.
