Ukraine Independence Day marked

Sunflowers and flags used to show solidarity

Today is Ukraine’s Independence Day.   As the country defends itself against the invading Russian forces our area continues to show solidarity with the Ukrainian people.

A number of families are being hosted locally and volunteers are still collecting items of aid in the old Debenhams store at Castle Quay.   These are packaged and sent to Ukraine.

In Brackley the Town Council joined others showing their support by displaying sunflowers in their windows.   The sunflower is Ukraine’s national flower.

At Cherwell District Council’s Bodicote House headquarters the Ukrainian flag was flown as a mark of solidarity.

Prime Minister Boris Johnson made a trip to the country earlier today.  He visited the capital Kyiv – his third visit to Ukraine since Russia invaded six months ago.
