Vandals force closure of toilets for people with additional needs
27/01/2023
The specialist toilet and changing facility was opened less than a year ago
A Banbury toilet facility which was designed for people with additional needs has been closed due to vandalism. The Changing Places toilet at Banbury Horsefair will now be shut until further notice.
Over £130,000 was invested in a complete refit of the public toilet block a year ago, including work to create the specialist toilet and changing facility, built for people living with disabilities. The design included more space, an adjustable bench with a motorised hoist, and a number of other features as required by over a quarter of a million people in the UK.
It was hoped the facility would enable people with additional needs to spend longer in the town centre.
As a result of the vandalism the Changing Places toilet has been deemed unsafe.
In expressing their disappointment a spokesperson for Cherwell District Council said: “Our contractors are visiting the facility today to assess the damage and provide us with a timescale for repairs.
“The nearest alternative Changing Places facility is in Castle Quay shopping centre.
“Please accept our apologies for the inconvenience caused.”
