Villagers in Aynho are considering having the Cartwright Hotel registered as an Asset of Community value.   The hotel closed in May 2024.

Since then planning permission has been sought to convert some of the property into houses, with the front retained as a pub, which is currently for sale.

Registering a building as an Asset of Community Value grants communities a “right to bid” with a six-month moratorium when the owner decides to sell, allowing them time to raise funds and make a bid to buy it.

People living in Aynho are being invited to a meeting this Sunday to discuss the options available to them.

They aren’t the first local group to investigate registering their local pub as an Asset of Community Value in an attempt to try and keep it as a public house.

In Great Bourton the “Save the Bell Inn’” campaign group registered their pub after it was closed, with plans for it to be converted to a house subsequently lodged.

Cherwell District Council rejected the planning application, but the owner appealed.   A decision by the Planning Inspector is due imminently.
