Volunteers needed to take on flood warden roles

Following a pilot elsewhere the scheme is being rolled out here

Volunteers are being sought to take on the role of flood wardens in north Oxfordshire.

They monitor blocked drains and culverts, spot ditches in need of repair and look out for tree branches or obstructions in rivers which could cause a flood risk.   By reporting them to the appropriate land or property owner, or the local authority, flood wardens reduce the risks for local people.

Oxfordshire County Council has already run pilot projects in Witney, Ascott-under-Wychwood, Abingdon and Sunningwell and is now extending the scheme to cover the whole county.

There is no set number of hours required, and flood wardens can volunteer according to their own schedule.
