Water problems keep Academy closed for most students again on Friday

“once the pipe has been patched up in one section, it is simply leaking further along”
Wykham Park Academy is set to be closed again tomorrow (January 21) for the majority of pupils. Ongoing problems with the water supply in the local area mean that most learning will have to take place online.
The Academy will remain open for Year 13 students who need to attend, with staff at school to support them.
Thames Water have been working to fix a burst in a six inch-diameter water pipe. The school says that water company can’t give them any assurances that it will be repaired for at least another 24 hours.
A spokesperson for Aspirations Academies Trust, which runs Wykham Park Academy, said: “Thames Water engineers have been unable to repair the leaking water pipe – once the pipe has been patched up in one section, it is simply leaking further along.
“The school will be open for those Year 13 students who need to attend and there will be staff on-site to support them. Online learning will continue for all other year groups and students.
“We apologise once again to all parents and carers for the inconvenience this has caused and thank them for their understanding.”
The Academy was initially forced to close on Wednesday whilst Thames Water dealt with a burst near the school’s entrance. It had been hoped the school would reopen today, however a further burst in the early hours of this morning resulted in only year groups 11 and 13 being able to be on site.
The problem has also been affecting other surrounding properties including the residents of Stanbridge House.
A spokesperson for Thames Water said: “We’re sorry the school has been unable to open and appreciate this is very disruptive for staff, pupils and parents.”
