Well-known family run furniture store closing down
29/01/2025
Rising costs and changes in the budget have been blamed
A well-known family run furniture store is closing down after 35 years of serving Banbury.
Bennetts Family Furnishings, based on the Warwick Road, blamed increasing costs and the additional charges they will face from April 1 as a result of the changes the Chancellor made in budget late last year.
The directors have accepted an offer for their building.
Gary Bennett told us: “After 35 years of successful trading in Banbury, we have decided now is the time to put away the marker pens and hang up the sale signs for the last time.
“This year has seen consistent price increases and with the looming additional costs and taxes on the 1st April we have accepted an offer for our building which will allow us to plan a successful exit from retailing.”
Existing stock will be sold off from the Warwick Road store until March 12, with remaining items available from the warehouse until the end of April.
Gary added: “It’s been a privilege to serve so many special customers.”
