Wellbeing equipment to improve hospital staff’s working lives
07/06/2023
Energy pods, sleep tubes, wellbeing nooks and outdoor gym equipment is included
Staff at the Horton General and other Oxford University Hospitals are benefiting from around £0.5m of investment in new wellbeing equipment, which has been installed to improve their working lives.
Energy pods, sleep tubes and wellbeing nooks – two person seating areas for private conversations – have already been installed. Outdoor gym equipment will follow later this year once planning permission is granted and construction is completed.
Up to £500,000 of capital funding was approved in January to purchase equipment.
Rachel Stanfield, Acting Chief People Officer at OUH, says: “Focusing on the basic health and wellbeing needs of our staff is a key priority in the implementation of our OUH People Plan 2022-25 and the equipment purchased was based on discussions with Wellbeing Champions and other staff about what they would find most useful.”
Nipuni Jayawardana is a Registered Nurse Associate working in the Acute Assessment Unit at the John Radcliffe Hospital. She said: “The rest pods give everyone a dedicated space to rest quietly, even for a few minutes. Also, when working long days in a row, the sleep pod accommodates our little naps with privacy during our breaks.”
