WW1 shell safely destroyed in Spiceball Park

The shell had been found in the Oxford Canal

A suspected 1st World War shell was safely destroyed in Spiceball Park on Friday afternoon.

The shell had been found in the nearby Oxford Canal.

Under the supervision of the Explosive Ordnance Disposal Unit the device was moved from the canal to Spiceball Park.   Here a controlled explosion took place.

The noise of the explosion was heard widely around the town.

Thames Valley Police thanked members of the public for adhering to their our safety advice during the operation.
