Young voices ready to sing out for children’s charities

The annual concerts have raised £102,000 over the last twenty years
Young voices from local schools will sing out this week to raise money for children’s charities.
Four “Children Singing for Children” concerts will take place at St Mary’s Church in Banbury, organised by Banbury Rotary Club.
Twenty-two school choirs are taking part over the next four nights, with Dashwood Banbury Academy, St Johns RC Primary, Cherry Fields Primary and Hanwell Fields schools taking to the stage this evening.
Each school will perform their own songs and then come together for a massed choir finale.
The annual concerts have raised £102,000 over the last twenty years.
Rotarian John Groves said: “The concerts are joyous occasions – the perfect antidote to the darker evenings and the doom and gloom that so many news broadcasts seem to be bringing us these days.”
Tickets are £7 each for adults, with accompanied young children free of charge. They can be purchased from participating schools or Henry’s Menswear in Banbury High Street (cash only).
Any remaining tickets will be available on the door.
The concerts start at 7pm.
The other schools taking part are:
- Tuesday: Harriers Banbury Academy, Bishop Carpenter, Chacombe Primary Academy, Christopher Rawlins, Greatworth and St Josephs schools.
- Wednesday: St Leonard’s, Queensway, St Mary’s, Wroxton, Hornton, and Hill View Primary schools
- Thursday: Hardwick Primary, Bishop Loveday, Longford Park, Sibford School, Orchard Fields and Frank Wise schools.
