Virtual Variety Comes To Banbury This Saturday
12/05/2020
The Avocet Theatre Company head online as the show goes on
Over 30 members of the Avocet Theatre Company (ATC) will be bringing virtual variety to a screen near you this Saturday evening. Live stage performances and meeting up for rehearsals hasn’t been possible due to coronavirus restrictions, but members of the Banbury based performance group have found a way to ensure the show goes on.
Past and present members of ATC will reunite on screen for The Virtual Variety Show with a selection of brand new acts – all filmed whilst in lockdown. The bill includes music, dance and comedy.
Putting the show together involved members initially submitting audition videos. Then weekly on-line drop-in sessions were held where the show’s organising team could talk through ideas, answer questions and run through pieces.
The Virtual Variety Show will be available to stream via the ATC website at avocettheatre.co.uk from 7.30pm on Saturday evening. It will be free to watch but they are asking for donations via their Justgiving page, with the funds raised being split between the NHS and the arts. The show will remain available online to view until June 20th.
The Avocet Theatre Company was formerly known as the St Johns Drama Group. Under normal circumstances they run yearly productions of a pantomime, their One Night Only Variety Performance and other projects. They operate from their own dedicated studio which includes a rehearsal room, practice space and a set, costume and props store. The group recently won three District awards at the NODA (National Operatic & Dramatic Association) Awards.
