People rush to book their use of Woodgreen Leisure Centre’s outdoor pool next weekend

Banbury’s outdoor swimming pool will reopen next weekend with bookings being taken seven days in advance.   The popularity of the reopening and volume of people trying to book on Saturday morning appeared to have crashed the automated booking system at the time.

Woodgreen Leisure Centre announced on Friday how swimming sessions would operate to keep swimmers safe.   Each session will run in a 55 minute block.   Swimmers must book in advance and can not just turn up at the centre.   The main public sessions are for lane swimming.  A number of clubs will also be making use of the facility including Cherwell Canoe Club, Banbury Swimming Club and Warwick Water Polo.

Individuals will need to swim staying socially distanced from other swimmers although families can swim together in lanes at specific times, but they must all be able swimmers.

Amongst the other changes for swimmers they will need to arrive ready to swim as changing areas will not be open.    Users are also advised not to bring valuables as there won’t be any access to lockers.   Limited toilet facilities will be open.

A number of people have expressed disappointment on the centre’s facebook page that family fun swimming sessions are not being run.   Woodgreen Leisure Centre has responded saying, “we are all as equally disappointed that we are unable to offer family swimming session at Woodgreen pool this summer, to see the pool full of families splashing and having fun is what we are normally all about, but In order to provide a safe environment we must stick to both industry and government guidelines which means ensuring all sessions are compliant with social distancing.

“All the staff at Woodgreen Leisure Centre cannot wait to repeat the scenes of last year when the pool was packed and the weather was glorious, but sadly we have got to wait until it is safe to do so.

“In the meantime we are pulling out all the stops to offer you the best service we can. We look forward to seeing you next Saturday”.

Those wishing to book need to use the booking system or the LeisureCentre App. Sessions can be booked up to 7 days in advance.

A member of the centre’s staff told Banbury FM, “If customers do have any problems we also have a contact us page on our website. We have a team of people who are working on this site to answer enquires as quickly as possible. We are stressing to customers they have to book in advance of their arrival, this can also be done up to 7 days in advance”.

Woodgreen Leisure Centre is also running a competition to win exclusive access to the whole pool for a family of up to 5 people.    Entry is via their Facebook and Instragram pages and entry closes on Monday.
