Wykham Park Academy and Hanwell Fields write to parents of a small number of children who must stay at home

Secondary school Wykham Park Academy and primary Hanwell Fields Community School have both taken precautionary action this afternoon following COVID-19 positive tests in the school community.   The schools have written to parents of a small number of children who may have come into contact with the individuals concerned to say they must stay at home.

However, both schools are keen to ensure parents are aware they remain open and other students should continue to attend classes.

A school letter to parents at Wykham Park Academy says, “We have been made aware of a member of our school community who [has] tested positive for COVID-19.

“The parents of a small number of children who have been in close contact with the individual who has tested positive for coronavirus (COVID-19) have received a letter informing them that their child must stay at home for 14 days.

“The school remains open and your child should continue to attend as normal if they remain well”.

At Hanwell Fields Community School the school is keen to indicate the measures are purely precautionary as there is no evidence the virus was caught at the school, or anyone else has been infected.

Headteacher Caroline Bond says, “At present, we have one member of the school community who has tested positive for Covid-19. This individual has close ties to our 5JS class.   As soon as we became aware of this, we contacted PHE [Public Health England] for its advice and guidance. PHE has advised us that pupils in our 5JS Class should now, as a precaution, remain at home until 3rd November 2020. A few members of staff will also remain at home as a precaution.

“To be clear, this is a single, isolated case that has occurred. There is no evidence that it was caught in the school or that anyone else in the school is infected.

“No other year groups or Bubbles in the school are affected by this and PHE’s advice is very clear: pupils in every other year group should continue to come to school as normal.”
