Homes draws for both Banbury and Brackley but fans will have to rely on live streams to watch the games

Banbury United have drawn a home game against Canvey Island in the first round of the FA Cup.   Fans won’t be able to watch the game though as the FA has decreed spectators won’t be allowed at any matches.

Meanwhile Brackley Town will face Bishops Stortford behind closed doors at St James Park.   That clash was set after a surprise win for Bishops Stortford who beat St Albans 2-0 on Monday evening.

Both matches are scheduled to be played on Saturday November 7th.

It was a tense wait for both Banbury and Brackley as they were some of the last teams pulled out during the draw earlier this evening.

In Canvey Island the Puritans will face one of a small handful of teams that are below them in the pyramid.   A win will see history made for Andy Whing’s United with them achieving their best ever performance in the competition.

80 clubs were placed into the hat for the draw tonight which sees the road to Wembley begin for the League 1 and 2 clubs, joining those who have qualified.   Near neighbours Oxford United will face Peterborough United at the Kassam Stadium and Oxford City are at home against Northampton Town.

In a move that disappointed fans the FA announced that due to COVID-19 restrictions all ties would be played behind closed doors.   16 of the fixtures will be broadcast by the BBC and BT Sport.   The remaining fixtures, including Banbury and Brackley’s games will be made available for live streaming by the host club.
