Banbury Rugby Club retain the Community Group Cup
19/01/2021
Club members walked or ran 3067 miles in the Lockdown Challenge during the weekend
Banbury Rugby Club held on to the Community Group Cup this weekend in the rematch of their Lockdown Challenge against Chinnor Rugby Club. The competition first took place last November to encourage club members to keep active safely during the pandemic.
During Saturday and Sunday both clubs tried to accumulate the most miles walked or run. Those taking part logged their activity using an app which linked back to each club’s total.
Through the 48 hour period Banbury club members walked or ran 3067 miles whilst Chinnor achieved 2419.
Nearly a thousand people took part – 601 of them representing Banbury.
Writing on social media Banbury Rugby Club described the event as “a challenge that really showcases the tremendous community spirit both clubs have”.
They said: “Congratulations #TeamBanbury, you continue to blow us away with how amazing you all are! Despite the current restrictions you still managed to combine for an incredible 3067 miles.
“It was another great challenge full of awesome stories. People setting new [personal bests], walks further than you thought possible and all of you, cheering everyone on, no matter how big or small the efforts.“
