Music festival organisers pull the plug due to ongoing safety concerns

One of the area’s big summer music events has been postponed again this year.   BodFest was due to return this July but the organisers have taken an early decision to pull the plug as the battle against COVID-19 continues.

Last year’s festival was called off in March 2020 as the country headed in to the first lockdown.   Cancelling at that point still incurred financial losses.   A Committee spokesman said: “Though we postponed last year’s event it wasn’t without financial costs and to prevent future losses and to ensure BodFest can continue in the future we hope you can understand our decision.”

Musicians and attendees alike were looking forward to the return of Bodfest in 2021 having missed what would have been the events twentieth birthday last year.   The volunteers who organise the event have taken the decision for the safety of everyone.

They say: “Given the COVID pandemic is still ongoing we do not feel it would be right to plan for an event in July when so many things are uncertain in the World and that as a volunteer committee we are not in a position to guarantee everyone’s safety.”

“As always safety comes first and we look forward to the day we can welcome everyone back safely for what will be the 20th staging of BodFest.”

The BodFest committee – who also organise the DuckFest race on the Sor Brook – are now hoping the situation with the pandemic might allow them an opportunity to organise something later in the year.   They say: “Should the outlook improve this year we would consider an event later in the year and enhanced DuckFest if it could be organised safely.”
